Between existence and experience
The Gordonia Maale Hahamisha Hotel is located in the Judean Mountains and overlooks the region’s many vineyards and forests from a height of 800 meters. In 2020, this was recognized as Israel’s first and only official wine region (appellation), joining the ranks of international wine regions like Chianti and Burgundy.
This hotel was the first opened by Gordonia Hotels, a chain that takes its name from the Gordonia Zionist youth movement, which was founded in 1925 in Europe. As many of its members moved to pre-state Israel, the movement rolled up its sleeves and got to work establishing many kibbutzim, including Maale Hahamisha in 1938, which was to be the site of the Judean Mountains’ first convalescent home. Upon its opening, this convalescent home set a new bar for quality and planted the roots of what was to become a unique hospitality tradition that still flourishes to this day. Some of the original buildings are still standing, forming a natural extension of the mountainous landscape.
The Gordonia movement has always been inspired by the values of A. D. Gordon, the thinker and man of action considered the first Hebrew ecologist. Gordon was also responsible for introducing the word “chavaya” (experience) to the modern Hebrew dictionary, derived from the word for consciousness. Gordon perceived the deep connection between a person’s life and work, and the nation’s life and land. He believed that true peace of mind comes from closeness to nature, a healthy body, harmony, and simplicity. It’s hard to argue with that!
Our guests’ peace and quiet is our top priority – that’s why the Gordonia Maale Hahamisha is an adults-only hotel. Accessed via winding Jerusalem stone paths, our 40 secluded suites are spread across 2.7 acres and surrounded by vineyards, natural woodlands, landscaped gardens with almond trees, herbs and wildflowers, grapevine pergolas, and even a lively fish pond. Most suites have a terrace with a private pool heated up to 28 degrees, sauna, and hot tub you don’t need to share with anyone. All guests can enjoy the infinity pool, large hot tub, and sauna overlooking the idyllic forested landscape of the Judean Mountains, as well as the gym and spa complex.
The lounge is the beating heart of the Gordonia Maale Hahamisha and the focal point for all daily activities around the clock. Here you will find comfy sitting areas with spectacular views of the Judean Mountains, a wonderful library with carefully curated works, a refrigerator with unlimited soft drinks, and stands serving coffee and wine. All meals, which are included in the price of accommodation, are also served in the Gordonia Salon. Our seasonal, contemporary cuisine includes a wide range of cheeses, fish dishes, and delicious vegetarian creations that reflect this unique place and time – the kind that always go best with a good drink.
