Clos de Gat Winery

The boutique Clos de Gat Winery was created through a joint venture between Kibbutz Harel and the vintner Eyal Rotem, who spent several years studying winemaking in Australia. Its first vineyards were planted in 1998 and the winery began operations in earnest with the 2001 harvest. Located on the edge of the Ayalon Valley, the winery’s grounds include an ancient wine press that was used to make wine around 3,000 years ago. The winery itself is housed in a historic building, now renovated, that served as Yitzhak Rabin’s headquarters during Israel’s War of Independence. Today it includes a beautiful large cellar, where the wine barrels are stored. Visits by appointment only.
